Friday night we found a protected camp site and set up a campfire in the soft sand among the boulders near Dos Cabezas. See map.

Jim, Mark, Jerry, and Fred enjoy the evening campfire. Well, maybe not Fred.
Saturday morning, Dave decides to carry his breakfast.
Looking up from our camp Saturday morning, we were treated to a beautiful rainbow.
Taking to the trail, we behold a double rainbow in Carrizo Gorge.
Following the gentle 2.2% incline of the railroad grade up from Dos Cabezas, we see the curved wooden trestle above Goat Canyon.
Dave in one of 13 railroad tunnels we biked through.
Dave, Todd, and Fred at the entrance to one of the tunnels south of Goat Canyon.
Jerry, followed closely by Mark, near the top of Carrizo Gorge grade.
Mark, Jim, Jerry, and Dave at the top of the grade. Part of an abandoned railcar to the left of Mark is on a spur called "Dubbers".
The group explores the rail car ruins at Dubbers spur.
Part of the group continued on to the Texaco station at the Jacumba exit off Interstate 8 for lunch. We reassembled at Dubbers, and returned back down the railroad grade the way came. After the first tunnel, we met up with Pete, left. Also pictured are Fred, Mark, Jerry, and Todd.
Looking north toward the top of Carrizo Gorge, we kept to the outside (downhill) side of the track, where a fair use trail is present. Note the scarp of a large landslide on the opposite wall of the gorge near the center of the photo.
Dave exits a tunnel.
The railroad seems "attached" to the side of Carrizo Gorge. No wonder this has been called "The Impossible Railroad"! Note the series of small trestles all the way down.
Dave, Jim, Jerry, and Fred prepare to cross the Goat Canyon tresle.
Goat Canyon trestle, Carrizo Gorge. View from the south.
Toward the end of our ride, we see a tenuous thread of green vegetation at the bottom of Carrizo Gorge.
