On Friday afternoon, the group drove from San Diego to Walter's Camp. See route map.
Early Saturday morning promised to be a near ideal day for canoeing the Colorado River. Walter's Camp is on the California bank, adjacent to the Cibola Valley, a wildlife refuge. This old channel of the river tends to be sluggish. The main channel is approximately 1/4 mile east of our location. |

About 2 1/2 hours after departure, the canoes raft together and the scouts enjoy lunch while continuing to drift downstream toward our destination. | |
