On Friday afternoon, the group drove from San Diego to Walter's Camp. See route map.
Early Saturday morning promised to be a near ideal day for canoeing the Colorado River. Walter's Camp is on the California bank, adjacent to the Cibola Valley, a wildlife refuge. This old channel of the river tends to be sluggish. The main channel is approximately 1/4 mile east of our location. |

Our 16 canoes along the bank of the old channel Saturday morning. After breakfast the boys will load, launch, and paddle the canoes. |

The scouts and adults pack personal gear at Walter's Camp. |

Scouts prepare and eagerly consume a hearty breakfast. |
A Walter's Camp breakfast is not complete without a camp kitchen including a dish washing station of wash and rinse buckets. |
"Box" lunches are provided for the river lunch. |
The canoes are launched. |
Doning life jackets or personal floatation devices ("PFDs") and selecting paddles, the scouts shove off. |
About 2 1/2 hours after departure, the canoes raft together and the scouts enjoy lunch while continuing to drift downstream toward our destination. |
