Ediza Lake and a small clump of pine and spruce trees at the creek inlet was our base camp (lower left). It's about 2,500 feet lower than Banner Peak. Other hiking reports call the rocks in the area "granite." This is incorrect. The rocks of the Ritter Range and along the whole hike from Agnew Meadow is older metamorphic rock of the Ritter Pendant. Mostly metavolcanic in the higher elevations, I notices metasedimentary rock in the lower part of Shadow Creek.
